Years ago, the tiny town of Maple’s Landing was an amazing sight. Bustling with activity, it seemed as though the land had received the Harvest Queen’s blessed touch; and it had.
Blissful life took a turn for the worse over a decade ago, when a great Calamity touched the land. Horrified by the events, the people rebuffed their Queen. Saddened by her people's snubbing, she put herself into a deep sleep and the land withered. Now, the town is tasked with saving their homeland before it's too late.
Join the townspeople in their arduous task and enjoy life in the meantime, form bonds, find love and live!

A brief description: Hono is the successor to her grandfather’s merchant business in their home country, and she's arrived at the Landing to prepare for that. And most of the time you do see her training...with a sword. She'll assure you it's part of the profession. Her education in merchantry permits her to be skilled enough around people, and would allow herself to be drawn to anything that interests her; Lord knows she needs the distractions whenever they present themselves.
What she needs: As a merchant-in-training, she would like to meet potential customers (and competitors), and that means surveying the area. She's also a young woman who's very far away from home, and would like to stabilize her footing as quickly as possible. She might need people who'd help her adjust and drive her homesickness away.
Current Goal: To keep her shop running for at least a year.
Thread Ideas: Hono is going to adore Anya's boutique @toadstools and Miri’s studio @Mona, and will be enthusiastic to speak with anyone who's also has a martial arts background. She and a restaurant owner could both adjust to her disdain for coffee, and other shop owners can exchange ideas about business.
Maybe people would be curious about the weird Japanese house that was built on the landing, or the gold-filled cracks in the bowls she sells in there store, or her impractical choice of clothing. And she's really, really afraid of areas that are covered in total darkness, and anyone could help her through that.
Mason is a little younger than her only being fifteen but certain things in his past has forced him to grow up. He's an orphan that can easily get by on his own, thanks to the survival training he underwent before the death of his parents. He is also skilled in combat and could possibly become skilled with weaponry if anyone bothered to teach him how it worked. I could see him being a little curious about her sword skills, not that he would show it. He has a tendency to keep emotions and people at arms length, so it can be a little hard for him to warm up to people. But he gets along better with adults than he does with people his own age, due to his maturity and how formal he can sometimes be. He can usually be found in the forest or library. But I'm pretty much open with them running into each other anywhere. He could here get over her fear for dark places.
Jade & Hono
Jade is only three years older than her and has taken over his father's job of being a blacksmith and owns his own blacksmith shop. A lover not a fighter, he steers clear of fighting and tries to stay on everyone's good sides. A bit of a pushover who will let people walk all over him instead of standing up for himself. But he's also a selfless person who'll sacrifice his own time and wellbeing to help those in need. If anything were to happen to her sword like the blade got chipped or something, he would be able to fix it.

Hono + AKI (and his grandpa):(profile) So, ironically enough, Aki and his grandpa are also from the ML!Japan, I've been calling it Nihon as a placeholder for now cause lol, get it, that's what it's actually called in...Japan....
Anyway, I think Grandpa Anzen would be THRILLED to pieces to see Hono's store in the Landing, just to have a little piece of home so far away. Of course, he'd drag Aki along with because boy needs to keep in touch with his rooooooots, don't want him becoming too Verendianized, you know?
Hono would uh....Fascinate Aki, to a degree. Just forewarning, Aki is in that moody teenager phase now, so expect a lot of snark and eye rolling lmao.
Phil actually would be interested in using Masuda Imports's services to get his hands on spices, alcohol and other ingredients if possible. On top of them talking business, Phil also has a good deal of experience with martial arts (not with weapons sadly) so I'm sure that could be an interesting thing to make threads with.
He's a few years older than her but I'm sure they'd have a good synergy. He's pretty independent and libertine so that would actually make a nice counterpart with Hono and her more traditional views.
We're already doing a thread but wow I can see the juxtaposition of Hono having a loving family vs Mason who doesn't have his, and starting to be conscious of how good she has it despite their squabbling. There could be a situation where combat is necessary and they demonstrate their skills to each other and discovered they're both trained in combat. And Hono will appreciate the forest to train or the library to get her romance fix, but will not go anywhere near them at nighttime.
As for Jade, a blacksmith to maintain her blades is a blessing Hono did not count on. She rarely practices with real blades, but this could...enable her to do such. Maybe Hono could take note of his meek approach, and, as someone who semi-literally has to fight to achieve the life she wants, would have a strong reaction to it.
@CrumbleCakes Hono would be equally thrilled to speak with someone from her home country, an elder whom she could learn from while she's in the Landing. And she could see a bit of her old self in Aki, which is doubly nostalgic. She'd love to teach Aki the history of every ware in her store, especially if a core Nihon (I call it Shoyouto 初陽都, we have to develop this culture more haha) philosophy was involved.
@Matt Hono will find her first regular customer in Phil and that would bring so much joy to her family back home. And Hono might even find herself envious of Phil's vast freedoms, a potential point of friction between. For the most part however, you're right, their contrast in world views could play off each other.
